Hello, I'm Rob, I am a 28 year old graphics and ecommunication designer from Manchester, UK. I grauated from Salford University in 2004 with a degree in Graphic Design and since that time I have been working for a design team based in Manchester. I have built up my skills and developed a extensive knowledge of web and print design as well as build up an invaluable contact list for all the things needed to finish off the job to heighest standards.

I have always had an interest in design and since leaving school it has been a huge part of my life. After leaving school I attended South Trafford College and studied for a BTEC in Design Communications. After this I went on to study for a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design. Both these courses have tought me alot of knowledge from traditional print based design to all manner of ecommunications from web design to emarketing.

  • I am Mac and PC literate, and have extensive knowledge in Adobe Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Acrobat, After Effects, Premiere, Flash and more.
  • Proficient with programming languages such as HTML and CSS.
  • In addition to my computer skills I am also a keen and experienced photographer and have knowledge of SLR and digital photography.

I learnt many key skills and gained extensive information about the graphic design industry through 'live' briefs, guest lectures and one to one tutorials. The course helped me to develop my graphic skills and to produce a portfolio which reflects my personal style.

BTEC Design Communication South Trafford College

Aug 1999 - July 2001

After leaving school I knew I wanted to pursue a career in graphic design and my next step was to find a college course to help me do this. The course at South Trafford College helped me to learn new skills in photography and helped me to develop advanced skills in computer aided design, aiding me in learning industrial standard programs including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia Director and QuarkXPress. I also learnt business study skills related to graphic design and also had the opportunity to direct a team of designers to produce a series of visual effects for the end of year fashion show.

Graphic Designer - Marketing Communications, Transport for Greater Manchester - September 2010 - Present

As part of the team of designers at Transport for Greater Manchester it is our responsibility to produce all promotional and information material, internally and externally, for both printed and electronic media. Projects can range from short run internal campaign posters through to campaigns for new products and services that encompass all aspects of design from printed material to press campaigns and online marketing and electronic media.


Web Designer - Internal & e-Communications, GMPTE, Manchester - March 2007 - September 2010

I am the lead designer for the Internal & e-Communications department at GMPTE. My main duties are to oversee all internal design - this includes staff newsletters, internal signage, training materials and all internal communications. As well as internal design my other main duty is to maintain and develop all areas of GMPTE's electronic communications - this includes the main GMPTE.com website, it's sister sites, staff intranet and email campaigns, as well as researching and developing future electronic communications.

Recently I have been part of the Intranet Replacement Project team, we have replaced GMPTE's aging Intranet with an Intranet and document management solution built on Microsoft's SharePoint solution. This has meant learning a whole set of skills including XSL and.NET as well as new applications for SharePoint administration from the inbuild admin to SharePoint Designer and InfoPath.


Design Technician - Marketing Communications, GMPTE, Manchester - August 2005 - March 2007

My role as design technician was to support the design team, cartographer and webmaster with tasks including updating the staff intranet, producing training and meeting materials, helping to develop marketing campaign visuals and printing buying and finishing artwork ready for print.


Freelance Graphic Designer, Graphical Fusion - May 2004 - Present

While in my final year at University I began to under take freelance jobs to enhance my skills and develop my portfolio. I have produced a wide range of projects over the course of working freelance, including corporate logos, t-shirt design and record stickers for a record label based in Manchester.

Recently I have worked on corporate identity for BioGas Products and Datosill Fabrications and produced the websites, promotional material and exhibition banners for both companies.


Producer of Visual Effects Aim Live Gig @ Manchester Academy - November 2003

Working along side my tutor from University, I helped to co-ordinate a team of pupils to help film the Aim Live Gig and project a series of idents integrated with live feed from the cameras for the crowd to see on a screen behind the stage. My main job was to relay information to the team regarding camera shots and positions, hiring and collecting equipment before and after the gig, setting up displays and cameras before the gig and helping the team to produce show reels of the footage afterwards for use by Grand Central Records.


Producer of Visual Effects & Advertising South Trafford College Fashion Show - June 2001

I was asked by the art and design tutors to co-ordinate the graphical elements of the end of year fashion show. My job was to assemble a team which would be able to produce a series of final outcomes with a quick turn around time to meet the tight deadline for the show. We produced a series of projected information screens to assist the show and also an entrance animation to welcome visitors. As well as this we worked along side the marketing department to produce a series of leaflets and posters to promote the event.
